Jo and I have been looking through the open submissions. It is our first time going through this process of shortlisting artists, and finding the submissions most relevant to the concept of The Way Forward. Feeling strangely like a judge panel on the X factor, Jo and I were both really inspired by the work submitted. This process is actually extremely rewarding. From a curatorial point of view, finding artists who have made work that has responded to the brief in the best sense, is really exciting. As Jo has said, the variety was extremely broad which just goes to show how a brief can be interpreted in so many different ways. We've had submissions from local Nottingham, to all the way from the US and Germany!
Good luck everyone who has submitted.
We will be looking through submissions for DUAL soon.
The Cutting Room has offered two Nottingham Trent students a curation and event management internship called 'Digital Stage'. We are Vivienne Du and Jo Hooper, both second year fine art students on the 19 week internship. The Cutting Room is based in Nottingham, co-curated by former NTU students Clare Harris and Jennifer Ross.

The Way Forward : New Graphics
We met again on Monday to discuss some new promotional material for the Cutting Room's upcoming event 'The Way Forward'. I was given the task of designing a new web banner for the event.

It was definitely fun to do a bit of design work and see it actually being used to promote the site not long after completion. It is a nice change to do some design work on the side of my practice.
The featured artwork is an interactive installation by Neil Mendoza and Anthony Goh "Escape" that was recently installed in the V&A; a series of old mobile phones and electronics transformed into kinetic sculptures that sing and move like birds when a phone number is dialled by the viewer.
(Credit to Toby Wolf for his photographs featured in the banner.)

I am currently in the process of posting the open call submissions for 'The Way Forward' on various sites to invite artists to apply for this upcoming exhibition. If you are interested, please check the Cutting Room website for more details.
